I really like the forum, but to be honest I feel like I see more interaction with the kind of stuff I normally post over on locals. I’m posting on both, but may start leaning back that way for most day-to-day sharing.
I see Gregg typing. This should be interesting.
Locals is fantastic if you’re a creator and you just want to give your consumers an easy feed of content from you. I think this is why @lunduke mostly just posts on Locals.
But if you want a lot of lateral conversation about what’s going on in the “community”, including regarding your content, then you want to come here.
Just for the record, I’m fine with both.
If you want the most visibility, do both. I don’t see how any other option can be reasonable.
Speaking for myself though, I stopped using Locals as soon as this forum was made.
Likewise. Though… I briefly considered going back.
I admit, I have been posting here more of late. I really like the format because it reminds me of the old message boards on other forums. However, I still like Locals, for what it is, and look up and post there, too. Best of both worlds.
I think of the Forum as more likely to engage in the Technical Discussions … but (in Theory) More “Eyes” Should See Content on Locals.com
(just my $0.02).
I like the forum, and haven’t been at Locals for a while. If you post here, I will read your stuff
Local stinks. Death to big tech!
Locals isn’t “big tech”. It’s owned by the Rumble people.
However, I will say, that their development direction does tend toward some of the negative patterns of big tech social media apps.
Chain letters, it is.
I miss those.
Sure, they aren’t big tech in the traditional sense. But they are a large company with a CEO and are publicly traded on the US stock market. They might be more “free speech” than YouTube, but they won’t hesitate to axe your content if you put their brand at risk.
TruthSocial, Parler, and all of these so called “freedom loving” platforms are all the same. They have investors and suits behind them. The only true way to ensure your content never goes away is to host it yourself, just like Lunduke is doing here.
This is correct. I agree with this entirely. Which is why I also host all my content myself as well. I don’t host my videos myself, but I keep copies of them all privately. So, Rumble can do whatever it wants to my content. I’ll always have it.
Of course. But that’s not a problem. It’s exactly what I would expect. If I was renting a room from someone, and broke all the rules of the household, I would expect the owner to kick me out. Likewise with social media. You don’t own your place there. You rent it.
What a normal person should be doing, is looking for a platform that is sympatico with the kind of content they want to produce. This will maximize your comfort with the platform. This is why I am on X, but not on OnlyFans. It’s why @lunduke is on Locals, but not on Twitch.
If you think a platform owner should be prevented from tailoring his service to the market he wants to appeal to, because of “free speech” or whatever, then I would encourage you to give it a go. It’s fairly easy actually, to stand up a social media platform like a bulletin board, and just let anyone use it for any reason they wish.
Yes, this is the way. The digital version of that anyway. Mailing list discussion groups.
I agree. I’m not a professional “creator” so I’m not super concerned about “consumers” (not until I publish that book, Lord willing ). And when do create something worth sharing, for me the fun of it is hearing back. Like when I built that text adventure and the “community” on Locals loved it. That made my day. Even @Lunduke himself did an article and podcast on it… but for me the coverage on his shows was just extra cheese on the pizza (or icing on the cake, take your pick).
