Whoa. That’s crazy. good catch!
EDIT: I don’t know, @trigglux. That seems like a genius plan to me
I don’t know who came with this piece of advice to edit previos replies, but whoever did needs to sit down and think until he/she realizes what’s the problem with that.
When you first edit a post, you get a badge that says the following:
“Editing is encouraged.” “Edit to make your posts even better!”
Sheesh, somebody here needs to really get a severe talking to. About immutability of the past, and the perils of rewriting history.
I personally find being able to edit my post helpful. You should know that any user can click on the pencil at the top right of the post and see the non-edited original. So you aren’t really hiding anything.
For me it is about fixing typos 9 times out of 10.
Edits should at least require a commit message…
Edit: A meaningful commit message
@2disbetter @chungy Ah, I see. Okay, that’s much better. I’m still against encouraging editing though.
git commit --amend
is a warcrime
Editing with history is perfect IMO. Am I the only one that rereads their post after submitting it, only to find that I have some typos and I forgot something important. This happens to me more than 50% of the time. If I didn’t have editing, then many of my posts would be confusing until you read my follow-up self replies.
(I guess I could train myself to reread before posting, but that sounds like work.)
I’m a fan of the edit button with a time limit. I don’t think it’s source code and has to be immutable but I think if you change a sequence like
Me: Peanuts are awesome
You: I wholeheartedly agree
To:
Me: Peanuts are evil
You: I wholeheartedly agree
That’s going overboard.
What are the steps to do this exactly? It wasn’t immediately clear to me, thanks!
Increasing the various limits. Still figuring out this system.
When someone edits a post or reply a little orange pencil will appear beside the time stamp near the top right. Click that pencil.
Good man. Thanks! Also, not sure if this is something you can control or not, but figured it would be worth mentioning. Replies shorter than 20 characters not permitted.
Fixed! New minimum post/comment length is… 3!
