Co-SysOps Needed

Ladies and gentlemen. Nerds and nerdettes.

The Lunduke Journal’s Forum and BBS have grown to a point where we need some Co-SysOps.

We need one or two to assist with the BBS (the message database, the upcoming retro computer file database, and the door games) – and another two to assist with this forum.

And, yes. These are Co-SysOp roles. Not “Mods”. We’re sticking with old-school terminology.

Moderation duties are, honestly, only a small part being a Co-SysOp. The truth is both the forum and BBS require only the lightest moderation (and, even then, sparingly). For the forums this could include organizing categories, fixing permissions issues, moving threads, etc…

This is, obviously, a volunteer thing. The only “benefit” would be having an exalted status… and my thanks. :sunglasses:

If anyone is interested – in BBS, Forum, or both – drop me a private message here on the forum.

Good luck with that.

right?
can’t be easy jugggling your groupies between platforms. lots of platforms up front to gain visibility, then consolidate them on Locals, then (why? a UI change and Locals doing what a platform will do when they have enough locked in?) migrate all to a forum with this that and the other and the flexibility of the categories having all clamoring for their own protected safe-space category.

I liked the forum for a couple days, could easily find the 50% of posts that interested me. now it feels like a lot of weeding to find the 10% of posts that I care about.

Best of Luck, though, @lunduke. glad you’re exposing the shenanigans in the tech world. You won’t likely notice, as I was already a lifetime sub - an approach that always seemed to me like you were eating your $eedcorn.

the BBS was unique, funky, and fun, for a bit.

@gmgauthier , though your comments more often chap my ass now, I was thankful for your philosophy lessons getting me through the darkness in the beginning of this lunduke adventure.

@leebase , I’ll just drop this here on my way out the door: I stand by my effort to talk you into staying around when you were questioning if you were in the right place in the beginning. I appreciate a distinctly different perspective on tech than my own. I learned from you, too.

I’ll catch you later, maybe. be well!

I was a forum mod for another podcaster over a decade ago. I will never, ever, ever do that again. It was one of the worst experiences of my life. I would advise anyone thinking about it, to find another hobby. I wouldn’t wish these roles on anyone. Whoever gets stuck with this task is going to hate himself, and eventually hate @lunduke, for it.

Glad the philosophy was helpful. As for the rest, I would just say this: these forums aren’t for making friends. They’re for pursuing interests. It is dangerous to confuse the two.

I believe we’re set. Got some quality nerds – who have been around here for several years, and clearly get what we’re about – who have stepped up.

We’ll get this setup over the next couple days. We’ll be doing this in a way that I think will be pretty darn low-key, low-stress for everyone (but will help me run things). :sunglasses:

I’m glad you did. It takes all kinds. I was concerned that I would be nothing but a disruption talking about Apple, cloud services and the like. AI wasn’t even on the radar if I remember correctly.

I have kept Lunduke’s words as my guide: write about what makes you happy.

I love hanging out with my fellow nerds

I’ve been enjoying the collapsed AI posts. (Makes sense to my being awake for 35 hours minus the 2 hours worth of random naps.) This week has been a week of FU human, I have had minimal sleep. The sleep I have had is normally between 1a & 6a. Please keep being awesome to each other!

The obnoxiously long posts was a reasonable callout. I just needed to learn how to us the details feature

I’m a sucker for pain. Ran an ActivityPub server for years (shut down last year before moving to Nostr.)
