What about a no-AI filter

What about a category, like the no-politics category, for no-AI? On a no-AI post you may not post slop. On posts not tagged thusly, slop may be dumped.

Would that make everyone happy?

We’ll need this filter on everything in the coming years.

Regrettably yes. Until the fad dissipates.

How about something like an “AI OK” category, like how there is “Politics OK”? That way it will be there for those who want to read it, while keeping AI posts out of the other categories.

I like that also, yeah. “Slop allowed” but the default is “no slop, thank you.”

We already have a “be excellent to each other” rule. AI isn’t the only contentious topic.

We’d need a No Apple rule (unless it was old Apple), no Windows rule, no Docker or Kubernetes rule

Etc.

This notion that someone else writing about a topic YOU don’t like is cause celeb to harass them is something the “be excellent to me each other” should prevent.

I second the sentiment. However, I think a better approach would be to establish a better list of positive top-level topics, and to establish a firm “no off-topic posts” rule.

Eg:

  • “Modern Tech”
  • “Retro Tech”
  • “Mobile”
    etc…

And in each topic, you keep your posts strictly on topic. You could then have an “AI” top-level topic, or maybe a “fad-tech” topic, in which the blockchainers, the genai’ers, and the wearable-techers can all go hang out there.

The advantage here, is that the forum software lets you completely un-track top-level topics. So, you could effectively hide them from your main view.

It doesn’t seem quite the same for when from where I am standing, it looks like AI and then especially AI generated content are more contentious. It may be a little too early to conflate these contentious topics as there seems to be something special about AI…

I do agree in this way that I think there should be a bunch more topics and tags, but I also think we should move carefully, take a few weeks to work out something liveable that doesn’t burn out the lunduke

Are there even other mods besides Lunduke? XD

Edit: I really like the apple stuff, since we use apple at the office and I wouldn’t naturally look up apple news myself. Its useful for me

I think there’s a qualitative difference, exemplified by The Cursed BASIC Thread: slop is a topic on its own, and that’s fine, we explicitly welcome conversation about slop-generators, but generating slop to insert into other unrelated topics is very much not the same thing.

We could call it the “Slop Trough”, and anyone that wants to post slop can go there.

My response to that is that this whole meta-discussion was set off by this comment: https://forum.lunduke.com/t/id-like-to-start-doing-more-in-basic/549/14?u=randrews

This was not you writing about a topic I don’t like, nor in fact was it you writing at all: you had a slop-generating-robot write some slop for you.

If you had written something yourself about AI and posted it there people probably wouldn’t have cared. There is a distinction between a human writing about AI and a couple pages of AI-generated slop. I for one welcome your writing; I do not welcome generated garbage.

As a fellow forum user, there are way too many topics on (mainly) one post with AI generated content. Can’t you all fight on one single dedicated topic?

Edit: Whew I’m laughing too much about this meme…classic.

A post that the person I wrote it to, appreciated

I agree. Categorizing over the big topics could help make it easier to find interestnig topics.
