@lunduke @retropunk Thanks. Now I’ve got to get back to writing on it. The last couple of weeks have been pretty tiring.
I’m not as concerned as others seem to be about the direction Locals is going, but since I have long wanted Lunduke to self-host the community, I am happy with the decision to open this forum.
Locals feed style social media presentation has always struck me as less than ideal for a community like ours.
I agree. 100%.
One thing that locals does is allow someone to make a premium post that cannot be seen by anyone who is not a member. This forum on the other hand is publicly searchable. Search engine will trawl it and things that are said here will show in results. I don’t feel the same is happening with Locals.
I think this is kind of important. Not that I want to hide things, but I really don’t like the idea of this being a kind of one-way mirror on the internet.
True, and in my opinion @lunduke should set this entire forum to hidden behind a subscription and not publicly readable. Not to hide from the world, but to emulate the same barrier from the riff-raff
I’ve learned never to rely on other platforms, they always get worse over time. That’s why I’ve invested a lot of time into self hosting things over the past couple of years (media server, RSS feed, file server, etc).
