Is it possible to enable a feature whereby users can mark threads as readable only by members, or perhaps a hidden member only category?
I found the ability to mark certain posts “members only” on Locals quite useful.

@lunduke Same here
(Need to take up space to post.)
Hmm. That’s a good idea. Maybe some area (or some ability to flag posts) where they aren’t publicly visible… I’ll take a look.
I’d opt for “members only” as default with the option to make public
I believe its possible in Discourse to create private groups, in which all the posts within that group are private to anyone not in the group.
I suppose what you could do, is create two groups: a “public” group, and a “private” group, put everyone in both groups, and then we’ll all have to pick which group to post our topic to.
I would really push this feature as well. But I am not sure I wouldn’t make the whole thing just private to begin with.
According to this, you can also make private categories. So, maybe @lunduke can just make a private category that everyone has access to. Then, at a minimum, you’d need an account on the board to be able to see any topics in that category.
Bumping this to keep it relevant. We really do need either the whole place turned private, or at the very least some way of making private threads.
My two cents, if you need a subscription to post on the forum then you need a subscription to view the forum. Entire thing should be private.
I would also like a private section where I can share something artistic, just with us users of this forum. Hope this is less ominous
That sounds ominous… 8|
Best would be to either have them private by default and optionally public or the whole forum private.
We don’t need crawlers searching and using our posts.
Btw: The forum registration with fixed codes should get changed.
That’s very unsecure. And I can’t even make this post private.
+1 to this, I was thinking the very same to myself just a bit earlier.
There are padlocks now on “No Politics” and “Politics OK”. Does that mean it is private?
Yes. All logged in users should have access though. If anyone hits any snags with trying to post to the other categories, let me know.
thank you for this forum. I, already, don’t go to Locals. plenty of action here, and easy to interact with what you like and avoid what you don’t.
